An exterior renovation of an existing 1970's house which had the distinct demeanor of late twentieth century light industrial architecture transplanted into a residential suburban context. Upon close examination of what little detailing there was in the original house, we detected a faint but distinct aspiration to the medieval. Proceeding in this direction, we were able to discover a rare but persistent medieval current in certain suburban modernist residential styles of the 1970's. the style features clean lines and glass membranes spanning massive volumes, like its more typical modernist counterparts of the day, but the wood or metal structure tends to be dark in colour and one can find chains and other wrought and forged elements as accents.
